Inflammation is the immune system’s first line of defense against injury and infection. It is triggered whenever body tissues are injured, such as the presence of foreign objects (splinters), pathogens (bacteria) and cellular responses (sunburn). Inflammation prevents the spread of damaging agents, disposes of cell debris, and, if possible, sets the stage for tissue repair in order to restore tissue to its original state. In the case of acne, inflammation is involved in all stages of the disorder. Therefore, it is said that “once you get control of inflammation, you get control of acne.”
Ask your esthetician and/or dermatologist what they are doing to treat underlying inflammation in order to help your acne clear.
